Google's Motorola set to launch Moto X phone on August 1

Google Inc's Motorola division appears set to unveil its much anticipated Moto X phone on August 1 at an event in New York City.
Email invitations sent to the media on Friday displayed the Moto X name in bold letters. The invitation depicted several youths holding the Moto X, the first smartphone Motorola has developed since its 2012 acquisition by Google.
Motorola, which Google bought for $12.5 billion, has steadily ceded market share to Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics Co, with most of its latest phones garnering relatively lukewarm receptions.
The Motorola business has been a drag on Google's profit margins, with Motorola's second-quarter losses totaling $342 million.
A Web page to respond to the invitation said, "Come experience the new Motorola. No Stage. No crowds." The page asks guests to select one of several "sessions" to attend at different times at an address in mid-town Manhattan.
In May, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside said at the AllThingsD technology conference that the new Moto X phones would be built in the United States.

After a sneak peek in a number of rumours and leaks, the second generation Nexus 7 tablet has reportedly appeared in its full glory, courtesy of a new video and accompanying pictures.

Android-focused website Android Central has managed to get its hands on the next Nexus 7 tablet, though it does give a disclaimer that it's not sure if the pictures feature the final version of the device or a prototype.

The tablet has been labeled as ME571K_PR1_SKU2, and just like the first generation Nexus 7, manufactured by Asus. Interestingly, the 'nexus' branding on the tablet is etched horizontally (landscape) instead of the usual vertical (portrait) placement, at the back.

The tablet comes with a specifications sheet that mentions a 7-inch LCD display and two cameras. The next generation Nexus 7 is likely to sport a 1.2-megapixel front shooter from LITEONMOBILE and a 5-megapixel rear camera by Chicony on the back. The rear camera appears to be placed in the top left corner inline with the 3.5mm headphone jack.

nexus7-2-8a.jpgThe sheet mentions a Qualcomm APQ8064 motherboard that indicates the presence of a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The version spotted on the Bluetooth Special Interest Group website featured a Snapdragon 600 processor, but there could be some discrepancy. It also mentions 4GB of DDR3L RAM and 16GB and 32GB storage options. There's a Micro-USB port right at the bottom, while the placement of the power button and volume rocker is similar to how they're placed on the current Nexus 7 tablet. The tablet also appears to sport two speakers.

The tablet is likely to come with Android 4.3, and is expected to be announced next week. Theunveiling is likely to come at a July 24 event in San Francisco. Google has already sent invitations to the media. The event will be hosted by Sundar Pichai, a Google executive who oversees the company's Android and Chrome operating systems.

Google to announce Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on 24 July

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Google has begun sending out invitations for anAndroid event on 24 July where the firm is expected to unveil the next iteration of its mobile operating system.
Google's cryptic invitation doesn't give much away, simply summoning press to join it for breakfast with new Android chief Sundar Pichai. The event will take place in San Francisco, and the invitation hints that it will be streamed live online.
While Google was unable to give us any clues, it's widely expected that the firm will unveil the next release of Android, tipped to be Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, not version 5.0 as previously rumoured. This would make sense, with Apple gearing up to release iOS 7 and speculation rife that Motorola will launch its Moto X smartphone running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in the coming weeks.
We don't know much about Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and it's thought that the update won't be a game changer. Instead, it's expected to bring a handful of font changes, a revamped Camera app, improved Notifications and a number of bug fixes. There's also a chance that it will deliver the Open Mic feature that appeared in a leaked Moto X video this week, which will enable compliant smartphones with an always listening mode.
There's chatter than Google might be planning to unveil some new Nexus kit at the event too, specifically the Google Nexus 5 smartphone and Google Nexus 7 2. While little is known about the next generation Nexus smartphone, there have been plenty of rumours about the Nexus 7 sequel, which apparently will feature a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a high-resolution touchscreen and the same price as its budget predecessor.
